![]() As the 1990’s progressed Randy had an idea, "let’s brew beer!" In 1993 the brewery was added and Randy’s became, Randy’s Restaurant & Fun Hunter’s Brewery. In January of 1994 the much anticipated inaugural brew was finished and tapped. Hunter Brau, as the beer is professionally now known was carefully created and crafted with the oversight of world renowned brew master Karl Straus. As a certified brewery, Randy’s continues to provide up to six types of Brewed Beer, Cream Soda and Root Beer. Stop in and have a pint! |
Beginning in the late 1930’s the location today known as Randy’s, was known as Kate Smiths. The small 30 seat restaurant became a popular stopping spot for travelers along U.S. Hwy 12. The restaurant was also a favorite of locals and college students looking to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown. In the 1950’s the Butgereit family operated the restaurant and bar which became frequented by many University of Whitewater college students. In the 60’s the Achilles family operated the location as the Red Hen.
As times change so do ideas, in 1972 recent graduates of the University of Whitewater Pat and Randy Cruse (pictured above) began their legacy as new owners renaming the location Randy’s Supper Club. In 1979 they added a 200 seat banquet room and a brand new kitchen. Due to increased demand 125 seats were added to the banquet room in 1987.
1989 arrived and construction of the new dining room and bar were nearly complete, when an arsonist set fire to Randy’s Supper Club and destroyed nearly the entire facility. However, a cooperative spirit prevailed between employees, local residents, University personnel, students and local officials. Through strong community support the restaurant, bar and banquet facility you now know as Randy’s was soon in operation. The story of the fire of 1989 can be seen in the foyer of Randy's Restaurant and Fun Hunter's Brewery.
